Yom Hashoah to Yom Ha’atzmaut – Turning Memory into Contribution

History is more than just facts and dates; it is people, memories, and stories.

Join us for a special event during the Ten Days of Gratitude* to memorialize those who perished and survived the Shoah, remember the sacrifices of the founders of the State of Israel and those who have fought to protect it, and finally the contributions of those who keep the modern-day Zionist dream alive.

Major General Eliezer Shkedy, a second-generation Holocaust survivor, has devoted his life to the service of the State of Israel and the Jewish people, rising to the rank of Commander in Chief and Major General of the Israeli Air Force. Hear his story, about what influenced his career trajectory, and how memory and sacrifice contributed to the realization of a dream.

Aryeh Halivni, Founder and Executive Director of Toldot Yisrael will discuss his project of memory and stories of the founders of the State of Israel. Halivni is working to preserve the real, human stories of the founding of the Jewish State and those who fought to establish and protect it.

Marty Herskovitz, second-generation Holocaust survivor, poet and Oleh. Hear about the distinctive approach he developed in his Creating Memory Initiative, about the powerful ways to connect memory on a personal and emotional level.

*The Ten Days of Gratitude is an initiative started by the Ein Prat Academy, marking the period from two days before Yom HaShoah until Yom Ha’atzmaut. The goal of this initiative is to infuse these ten days with meaning, and to use it as a time to reflect on what we lost, what we have, and how grateful we should be, living freely in the Jewish Homeland.
