Parsha Thought by Rabbi Tsvi Blanchard
Sometimes things feel so thoroughly bad, even wasted, that we wish we could start all over again. These are the days when we dream of turning our world over completely. At these moments, we hope, even aspire, to profoundly recreate our whole lives. While I do not wish to discourage anyone who can, in fact, become a saint through a radical act of sheer will, I have to say that, in general, most of us can't become a different person or have a completely new life. And , truth be told, we shouldn't seek this. Real change, genuine moral and spiritual growth, is gradual and necessarily connected to the good that we have already achieved. For me and my friends, the moral and spiritual life is made up of ongoing little acts of self re-creation that renew, expand and increase the good we have done.
