24TH PRECINCT & CSS APPRECIATION

Shalom friends,

So much of what we do in Shul involves praise and gratitude. I hope you will join with me this Shabbos morning as we honor our local Police Precinct. We will be joined by members of the 24* as well as NYPD officers from around NYC.

I don't need to tell you that the police and other first responders are a critical link in keeping us safe - especially in an environment which has become more and more volatile recently. We can never know what a word or encouragement and an open hand means for any essential worker.

As I always say "a smile is a small curve that can set a lot of things straight."

There are two very different ways to do so.  Sometimes, we enter the lives of others and offer support, guidance, concern and love. Then, we leave. In other circumstances, we actually identify and live with others. Then our support, guidance and concern builds an ongoing common life. Both are important. The trick is to know when and with whom to do each one of them.
