Concern for the world and our life in it is an essential orienting spiritual attitude that characterizes prayer on Rosh HaShanah, the Jewish New Year. What might this mean?
Concern might mean seeking a world where the Divine can be named and brought into a relationship with the individual and group challenges we face.
Concern might mean understanding our actions as so vital that we both fear getting it wrong and are also amazed and inspired by our possibilities. We seek to join with all creation to discover and express the spiritual meaning of reality.
Concern might mean hoping for redemption, and it might mean honoring and seeking the ideal possibilities of our world.
Concern might mean rejoicing when righteousness triumphs and evil is frustrated.
Reflections on the liturgy for the Jewish New Year.
At this time of the Jewish New Year, I wish you and all those you love and care for health\, happiness and the sweetness of a life well lived.
