There is never a comfortable time to talk about the purchase of burial plots. In this weeks Parsha, we learn the importance of this issue from the efforts of Avraham to secure a dignified last resting place for Sarah. Hoping for the best but still planning for any outcome is an essential Jewish trait. Preparing for these matters ahead of time eliminates much stress and even delay when the plots will be needed, iyH after 120 years. Our office is available to discuss reserving spaces at significant savings in our active properties at Beth El Cemetery (Paramus) and Riverside Cemetery (Saddle Brook). We can also discuss Memorial Plaques, the Preservation of a Pew, the recitation of Kaddish, or a myriad of different dedication opportunities. We tell ourselves stories that help us imagine how our lives might or should go, and what we will or will not do as a result. As reality unfolds before us, we sometimes pause and with great attention try to grasp fully what is happening. Does it fit with the work, the relationships, or the other life opportunities that we have imagined? We "stare" at the world thinking: Do all the pieces fall into place according to "plan"?
When our reality matches our positive expectations, we may think that it is a sign that we are clever or fortunate ,or blessed. And if things don't play out following the story in our heads, we might think that we have been foolish, or unfortunate, or even cursed. We need to pay very careful attention to the vocabulary we use to describe the relationships between the life stories we tell ourselves and what unfolds as real
