The Manhattan Eruv began in 1999 as a local community project for the Upper West Side, but it eventually expanded to include most of the borough of Manhattan.
Obviously an essential need for residents and their families, the Eruv is also used by the many patients of the local hospitals, and their loved ones.
The entire Eruv is checked and maintained weekly, and a website (eruv.nyc) posts real-time status updates.

Discovering significant possibilities in our lives requires understanding both the past and the future. True, we intuit much of our future as "what might be," but, as a rule, something is only a real possibility if it emerges from our past or is in some way consonant with it. In religious language, revelations are life events that give new meaning to our existence by linking our personal experiences and expectations to an as-yet unimagined future. In these unforgettable moments, we expansively reenvision tasks, which makes us fearful and anxious, but also holds out a secret hope that we can achieve our most inspiring ideals.
