We just shuttled between Beit Shemesh and Giv'at Ze'ev, and we have been the beneficiaries of the recent opening of new highways between the two neighborhoods. Most of a new highway has been expanded from one lane to three or four, except for one area about half a mile in length. For another "Only in Israel" example, the Antiquities Dept. has not allowed the expansion of highway to include this area, because an ancient city has been found that appears to be from the First Temple period.
The activities of Beit Elazraki, where we stayed, is nothing short of miraculous. I saw plaques of many OZ families who have connected to this great institution. The protection of the most vulnerable is the greatest mitzvah and the children of Beit Elazraki are suffused with confidence, attention, hope, and anticipation for a better day. At the graduation ceremony 13 seniors were recognized and one child from 9 different age groups was decorated. These 22 students were beaming with pride and appreciation for the better life offered to them. This is a great place to visit. Anyone who does would take great pride in klal yisrael.
We'll be back for next Shabbos, the 30th anniversary of our 1st Shabbos at OZ.
Shabbat Shalom and best regards from Israel,
Rabbi Allen and Alisa Schwartz
