Israel is teeming with parents and high school seniors checking out Yeshivas for next year. People my age used to spend winter vacation at Grossinger's or in Florida. Now a popular vacation spot is return to your Yeshiva for a week of learning. We planted 26 trees this week with our grandchildren to fulfill the mitzva of settling the land of Israel. Tu B'shvat is really celebrated here. I have actually seen the budding almonds.
We walked in the valley where David confronted Goliath, we drove right up to the place where our ancestors crossed the Yarden into Israel, and we separated tithes from Israeli produce. We found pottery from the First Temple period, and stood at a monument for the "lamed he" heroic soldiers, 70 years to the day after they were killed bringing supplies to a besieged community in the Gush Etzion area. There is history at every step.
