Dear OZ family,

Shavua Tov.

Today is the 28th Yahrzeit of a towering figure that was larger than life for the Orthodox Jewish community in America in the middle of the 20th Century. Rav Joseph B. Soloveitchik passed away on the first day of Chol Hamoed Pesach in 1993, and hundreds if not thousands of his students dropped their Chol Hamoed plans at the time, to trek to Boston for the Levaya. Many students brought their young children or grandchildren so that they could say that they attended the funeral of one of the great descendants of the Soloveitchik dynasty. I had the great privilege of learning in his shiur for two years, and I remember the nervous excitement of actually raising my petrified voice to ask a question. Most of his shiurim and lectures are available in print, audio and video platforms. Some of his most impassioned speeches are available in Yiddish with subtitles. The best way to commemorate the Yahrzeit of such a towering figure is to study his Torah. I am including a link below to connect to memorial services in his memory. I attended grade school at Yeshiva Soloveitchik, named after the Rav’s father, Rav Moshe, and also had the privilege to learn with the Rav’s brother, Rav Aharon, as well as his son, Rav Chaim. May the family’s memory be blessed through the monumental amount of Torah they spread, and the outsized role they played in maintaining Orthodox Judaism in America.

Moadim L’simcha.

Be safe.  Be healthy.  Be excellent.
